Reimer-tiemann reaction was discovered by two scientists karl reimer and johann karl Wilhelm Ferdinand tiemann with together.

 Reaction statement or principle :

the reaction of phenols in the presence of chloroform (CHCl₃) and alkali solution (NaOH or KOH ) , gives hydroxy aldehyde . this reaction is known as reimer-tiemann reaction.

In these reaction formylation is become , that is way it is also known as formylation reaction .

And it is also a electrophilic substitution reaction .

This reaction is applicable to aromatic and heterocyclic compounds.
